Family Values by David Williamson

TMLT is pleased to present a hilarious production by David Williamson.

A true comedy drama, the play is character and relationship driven. Everyone with grown children and/or brothers and sisters will recognize themselves and perhaps a family birthday or Xmas lunch from this. Intergenerational drivers and expectations mixed in with long standing sibling rivalries make for intense competition and conversation as positions are challenged, consolidated and changed throughout this emotionally charged evening.

David Williamson brings a light and fond touch to the dialogue exploring parenting roles and attitudes. He holds up an amusing mirror to Australia and its beliefs and failings. At heart this is an optimistic play from the master wordsmith of the Australian character.

Caitlin Yaeger-Dwyer

This is Caitlin’s 4th play at the Zamia and she is grateful to be a part of the wonderful Zamia theatre family. She hopes audiences enjoy ‘Family Values and its thought provoking content. Caitlin is the perfect Emily – too pretty for her own good! And a commanding presence on stage.

Caitlin is excited for her upcoming debut as a director at the Zamia in the following months….Stay tuned!

Owen Buckley

Replacing Iain McPhail, Owen is a longstanding member of the Little Theatre and has trodden the boards many times - most recently in 'Under Milkwood'.

He is renowned for his wonderful voice and sings both professionally and completely. He has graciously taken on the challenge of Justice Roger Collins 9 days before opening night and we are all so very thankful to him.

Brendan Payne

Yeah, sorry. He is back – For the 3rd time at the Zamia. Brendan did face some stiff competition for the role of Michael, once again being the only bloke that auditioned. The bottom of the barrel has well and truly been scraped people.

We have stopped feeding him but he keeps coming back. We have also tried spraying him with a water bottle to get him off the stage but again, no luck. Can someone please collect him!

But apart from that he is, again, doing a stellar job keeping everyone in stitches and getting under the skin of his character Michael- not that anyone would ever want to get under Michael’s skin!

Cath Buckley

Cath has been a member of the theatre for more than half her life, and the President of the group for over a decade. She has been involved in dozens of plays. This her second foray onto the Zamia stage this year and she pleads your indulgence as it’s her favourite thing to do….

Family Values has been an enjoyable challenge in rehearsal, with some great laugh out loud moments, and some demanding ones, too. Cath has jumped into the role of Lisa with verve and a lot of swearing – which feels just right to her.

She hopes you enjoy your night out at the Zamia.

Lesley Sawyer

Lesley returned to the theatre following a short break of around 36 years, after writing and starring in her Upper 6th play at school. She has directed, stage managed and acted in lots of TMLT productions and has discovered, to her surprise, that being involved in the theatre has become an unexpected passion.

She has welcomed and enjoyed the challenge of playing Noelene. Not that Lesley could ever have commanded a Border Force cutter – as she is a true Pom and is allergic to water. But she loves her character’s passion and is bringing her to life with empathy and force.

Linda Simister

Linda has been involved in amateur theatre since 2001in WA. In the 20 years she has lived on the mountain (so really a long term mountaineer now) she has performed in several productions for TMLT including “Dimboola”, “Fox on the Fairway”, “How the Other Half Loves”, “Farndale Avenue…Christmas Carol” as Scrooge and the pantomime, “Scallywags”. Linda has twice played the part of the young Judith Wright in the local production, “Hearts Ablaze”.

Linda thought it time to take the challenge of learning a script once again after 6 years hiatus and is enjoying meeting new cast members and all the magic of bringing amateur theatre together. She has captured all the conflicts and emotions of a long term marriage and 3 adult children who at times really disappoint!

Sarah Collins

Sarah is our most recent blow in – having been on the mountain just over a year. This is her first time on stage though friends and family have been telling her she is a drama queen all her life.

She is doing a great job tackling as character who is both a complex and traumatized – and with an accent – not bad for a stage newbie. Who knows this might be the start of a whole new career.
